Designatory letters - CCol FSDC

Fellowship of the Society is the most prestigious of the diplomas carrying the designation Chartered Colourist and indicates that the holder has demonstrated sustained experience and achieved distinction within a colour-related profession. Because of the uniqueness of the Society of Dyers and Colourists, Fellowship is held in very high regard and its status is recognised throughout the world.

Fellowship is by no means confined to those whose contributions take the form of published papers, whether in the world of academic research or industrial technology, although many such people are in fact Fellows, election may also be based on outstanding performance or distinction in other areas of coloration and Fellows often hold quite senior positions in disciplines such as production or technical management, engineering or marketing. A substantial number of current Fellows are from countries outside the UK, thus demonstrating the international character of the distinction.

Candidates for election to Fellowship must posses an approved university honours degree, or a qualification or achievement that demonstrates a level of knowledge and ability at least equivalent to attaining an approved honours degree in a colour-related discipline.

As their careers develop, Associates are prime sources of such candidates. Candidates must be at least 33 years old and will normally have had ten or more years relevant experience since graduating. They are also required to provide a curriculum vitae and to give details of the basis of their claim to have achieved distinction within a colour-related profession. Such claims must be substantiated by at least two referees, one of whom must be a current Fellow of the Society.

The regulations and guidelines covering SDC awards can be downloaded from this site. A list of current Chartered Colourists is also available.
