Certificate of Competence Course
Colour Fastness Testing of Textiles
The Society has taken another step in its pursuance of excellence with the organisation of courses in practical training in Colour Fastness testing.
Attendees who attain an appropriate level of expertise will qualify for the Society's Certificate of Competence in Colour Fastness Testing.
The basic course is of two-to-three days' duration and is organised on a modular basis. The courses are led by professional experts from laboratories with NAMAS approval in colour fastness testing. They are aimed at individuals from companies, technologists and dedicated groups from specific companies.
Each course covers:
- An introduction to British, European and International Standards for fastness testing and fabric stability
- Principles of testing, sampling and specimen preparation
- Practical training and demonstration of tests for:
- Light fastness
- Washing, water and perspiration fastness
- Rubbing fastness
- Dimensional stability of fabrics - Methods of mounting samples and experience in assessing results; comparison of instrumental and visual techniques of assessment.
Additional courses covering more specialised tests - fastness to chlorinated water, dry cleaning, nitrogen oxides - are planned. Non-technologists are catered for by courses in the appreciation of the meaning and value of testing.
One-day advanced courses may sometimes be added to the end of the three-day courses according to demand. Please discuss requirements when booking the course.
