Certificate of Competence Course
Principles of Colour Measurement for Quality Control
The course explores the use of colour measurement in quality control applications of coloured goods in the textile industry.
Successful completion of the course and the assessments, will result in the award of the Society's Certificate of Competence in the Principles of Colour Measurement for Quality Control, which is valid for three years.
The one-day courses are aimed at:
- Directors and managers involved in purchase, manufacture or sale
- Operators of colour measurement systems
- Users of the results of colour measurement.
The basic course provides a highly practical, non-mathematical overview of the capabilities and limitations of colour measurement systems. Due emphasis is placed on the requirements of sample preparation for measurement, and on the need for instrument-performance monitoring. Interpretation of results, and their relationship with those from visual assessment, is a major part of the course. Each course covers the following:
- How we see coloured objects
- Colour phenomena - colour blindness, metamerism and colour constancy
- Colour communication and colour order systems
- CIE system definitions of light sources, illuminants, measuring-instrument geometries, and observers
- Spectrophotometers and colorimeters
- Colour spaces and colour differences
- Sample preparation and presentation
- System-performance monitoring
- Interpretation of Quality Control outputs.
