Finalists in the SDC Global Student Design Competition
Competing for the SDC Colour Design Award 2008
Young designers from around the world will soon start arriving in
Bradford for the grand final of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC)
global design competition. Aimed at encouraging the creative and inspired
use of colour in fashion and textile design, the competition – the first
ever SDC international student design competition of its kind – has been run
in conjunction with
SDC regions/affiliates around the globe.
Working to a universal brief, each region was responsible for organising,
judging and sponsoring the local heats and the finalists have all now been selected. The seven
finalists from the overseas regions/affiliates and the six finalists from
the UK SDC regions are:
• Australia:

Comments Chris Sargeant, SDC vice-president fashion/design, ‘We are very
excited to be the catalyst for competitions such as this that encourage new
design talent and help better prepare students for their future careers in
the fashion industry.’
As part of their prize, the finalists are now invited to the grand final and
the winner will be announced on Friday 18 April. This will take place at the
awards dinner in Bradford following on from the Society’s Day of
Celebration. The work of all the finalists will be exhibited for the
duration of the event and will also soon be available in the SDC online
gallery. The SDC Colour Design Award 2008 will go to the global winner, with
a cash prize of £1000 plus the Veronica Bell Award.
