NEWS RELEASE
SDC Sponsors Colour & Textiles Award
at Graduate Fashion Week
- Make a splash of colour at GFW 2008
- All exhibiting colleges eligible to enter students
Taking as its theme ‘connecting colleges with colour’, the Society of
Dyers and Colourists (SDC) is pleased to be a sponsor of Graduate Fashion
Week. For the second year running, the Society will sponsor the SDC Colour &
Textiles Award 2008 – open to students from all colleges exhibiting at this,
the premier event in the graduate calendar, which takes place in London on
8–12 June 2008.
The award is portfolio-based and judging will take place on Tues 10 June,
with David Saunders, the fashion designer behind London label David David,
being a co-judge alongside the SDC. The judges will be looking for students
whose work has explored the creative and inspired use of colour to achieve a
distinctive fashion statement in either printed or constructed textiles. The
winner will be announced at a gala show and awards ceremony on Wed 11 June
and will receive a cheque for £750, with an additional £250 going to their
university.
As an authority in the industry on all matters relating to the development,
use and application of colour in the global textile supply chain, the SDC is
a committed sponsor of young designers.
Comments Chris Sargeant, SDC vice-president fashion/design, ‘We are
delighted to be at Graduate Fashion Week once again, sponsoring an award
that promotes the imaginative and exciting use of colour in design. If the
wealth of talent on show last year was anything to go by, the judges’
decision is going to be a difficult one.’
The SDC will also be taking part in the exhibition at Graduate Fashion Week,
promoting colour and the role of the SDC as an educational charity to a
wider audience.
Graduate Fashion Week this year will also incorporate the Education Day on
Thur 12 June aimed at 14–18 year old school children and those at Further
Education Colleges. The day will provide visitors with a unique opportunity
to see the types of courses available from the exhibiting universities, with
various events taking place throughout the day.
To link in with GFW Education Day, there will be presentations at the SDC
exhibition stand highlighting the ways in which the SDC ‘connects colleges
with colour’. These presentations will take place at 1.30pm and 3.30pm on
Thur 12 June.
Make sure you visit the SDC at stand D106 and have a colour
experience!
