Coloration Technology
The SDC's flagship journal, Coloration Technology, is published six times a year and contains peer-reviewed research and review papers, together with other items such as book reviews.
Aims and scope
The primary mission of Coloration Technology is to promote fundamental understanding and creativity in the science and technology of colour and coloured materials by providing a medium for communication of peer-reviewed research papers and review papers of the highest quality.
It is internationally recognised as a vehicle for the publication of theoretical and technological papers on subjects allied to all aspects of coloration. The topics of papers range from dyes and pigments, to colour measurement, to the coloured substrates themselves. A list of subject areas covered can be downloaded from this site.. The journal will publish original publications of high scientific merit, authoritative reviews and explanatory and historical contributions. Short communications and book reviews are also included. The usual selection criteria for acceptance of manuscripts apply.
General information
The journal is the definitive peer-reviewed publication of the Society and has been published continuously since 1884, undergoing many changes in both content and appearance during its long and distinguished history.
Formerly known as the Journal of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (J.S.D.C.), in 2001 it was relaunched with the title Coloration Technology. Since then the yearly number of submissions has increased markedly and the journal's impact factor has also risen. In 2006, the Society's annual journal Review of Progress in Coloration (published since 1969) was incorporated into Coloration Technology, combining the strengths of the two publications and allowing for more frequent delivery of authoritative reviews on a wide range of subjects relating to all aspects of colour and coloration.
Also, in 2006 the Society entered a strategic partnership with Blackwell Publishing. Whilst the SDC maintains full editorial control over Coloration Technology, Blackwell's experience as a publisher of more than 800 journals for over 650 professional and academic societies will allow the partners to consolidate, build upon and enhance the journal's successful position and reputation. There is a Coloration Technology information page on the Blackwell site.
One of the many benefits of the partnership with Blackwell Publishing is that the journal can now be accessed online at Blackwell Synergy from where individual articles can be accessed (by subscribers) or purchased. All recently published issues are fully searchable online. Further information about online access is available.
In addition to scientific and technological papers, and now also authoritative reviews, the Society's Journals Committee welcomes contributions of a more practical nature, as well as those involving plant, management and services where there is a direct relationship to coloration. We always encourage authors to discuss the practical implications of work reported. Explanatory and historical contributions are also welcomed.
Each article is peer-reviewed under the control of the Editorial Panel, with the aim being to maintain the high level of scientific content in the research papers it publishes.
Presentation and author guidelines
It is desirable that all articles should contain sufficient background and explanatory detail to enable the non-specialist or even the uninitiated to read them with interest and understanding, thereby adding to their knowledge. The full author guidelines can be downloaded from this site.
Accelerated publication procedure (APP)
In order to benefit from this accelerated publications procedure, we are asking authors to work with us to improve the presentational aspects of papers when preparing manuscripts for submission. If certain guidelines are met, articles may be eligible for the accelerated publication route, at the discretion of the editorial team.
